The pear paintings tell many different stories. Some are meant to be funny like the "pear tree". Some are very much auto-biographical. Some are about romance, some about isolation while other deal with political ideas. The idea for the "political still Life" exhibition grew out of these paintings. This exhibition was my first expereince with developing a collection of paintings where something could be communicated by the collection as a whole. It helped me to see the potential of telling stories via a collection or works. I continue to enjoy using pears to tell stories and such paintings are displayed in the "After pears" gallery that is below "the Pears" gallery.
